Springtime is just around the corner and pretty soon, a lot of homeowners will be contacting their local roof installation contractor for some much needed cleaning and maintenance on their home. While it is important to take good care of your roof, don’t forget to include your vinyl siding in your spring cleaning to-do list.

The winter season can be just as harsh to your siding boards as to the rest of your home so some timely maintenance is needed to keep them in good shape. Here are a few vinyl siding cleaning tips from our experts at D-Wing Construction.

Use the Right Cleaning Solution

There are siding cleaning solutions available at your local handyman shop and for the most part, these are all okay to use. However, you can also choose to use your own mixture. General cleaning solutions can be a mix of one-third cup powdered laundry detergent, two-thirds cup powdered household cleaner, one quart liquid laundry bleach and one gallon of water. For mold and mildew stains, you can substitute the detergent with white vinegar, instead.

Use the Right Materials

Avoid using abrasive scrubs because this can scrape the protective coat on your vinyl siding. Use a gentle microfiber rag. You may also use a scrub with gentle bristles for areas with tough stains. Some vinyl siding can withstand pressure washers however, it’s best to check with your manufacturer first before doing so.

Call the Pros

Just like you wouldn’t entrust an interior remodel to a roofing contractor, it’s best to find the right professional for the job. Many exterior remodeling companies offer routine maintenance programs to help keep your siding in clean and in good condition all year-long.
